What goes on an Indian salary slip?
The parts this generator handles, and what they mean.
Earnings
- Basic Pay — the core of your salary, usually 40–50% of CTC. PF and gratuity are calculated on it.
- House Rent Allowance (HRA) — typically 40–50% of Basic; partly tax-exempt if you pay rent.
- Dearness Allowance (DA) — cost-of-living adjustment, common in government and PSU structures.
- Conveyance & Medical Allowances — fixed monthly components; conveyance up to ₹1,600/month has tax benefits.
- Special Allowance — the balancing figure that makes the breakup add up to your CTC.
Deductions
- Provident Fund (PF) — 12% of Basic + DA from you (capped at ₹1,800/month), matched by your employer.
- ESI — 0.75% of gross wages, only if monthly wages are ₹21,000 or less.
- Professional Tax — a state tax (e.g. ₹200/month in Maharashtra); rates vary by state.
- TDS — income tax deducted at source as per your tax slab and declarations.
Net pay
Gross earnings minus total deductions = net pay (in-hand salary). Indian payslips conventionally spell the net amount out in words — this generator does that automatically, using the Indian numbering system (lakh, crore).

Frequently asked questions
Is this salary slip generator really free?
Yes. No signup, no watermark, no limits. It runs entirely in your browser, so there’s nothing to charge for.
Is my salary data uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. Everything stays on your device — entries are saved only to your browser’s own storage, and the PDF is generated locally. Nothing is sent to any server.
Can I use this slip for a visa, loan or background verification?
The slip follows the standard Indian payslip format (earnings, deductions, net pay in words, signatory lines). For official purposes such as visas or loans, most authorities want it on company letterhead or attested by your employer’s HR — check their requirements first.
What is the difference between CTC and in-hand salary?
CTC is the full yearly package, including what your employer puts toward PF and the like. In-hand is what reaches your account after PF, professional tax, ESI and TDS. The Auto-split button turns a monthly CTC into the standard breakup.
How is Provident Fund (PF) calculated on the slip?
12% of Basic + DA from your pay, capped at ₹1,800 a month. Your employer matches it. Auto-split applies this for you.
What is Professional Tax and why is it ₹200?
A state tax on employment. ₹200 is Maharashtra’s monthly slab — other states differ, and some charge nothing. Edit the row to match your state.
Can I add my company logo to the payslip?
Yes. Upload it and it appears on the preview and in the PDF. It’s resized in your browser and never uploaded anywhere.
Does it work on mobile phones?
Yes — the form, the preview and the PDF download all work on phones.
